Block Island

I absolutely love Block Island. It's one of my favorite places to visit in the summer. It's such a quintessential New England town with the classic hotels and ocean views.

Luckily, we live about 5 minutes from the ferry so a spontaneous day trip worked out perfectly. If you take the ferry from New London, the ride is just over an hour and the views the entire way out are gorgeous.

Once you get out to Block Island, there are so many different things to do that it's nearly impossible to fit it all in in one day. We rented a Jeep for an hour to tour the island and head to Mohegan Bluffs. We probably could have spent our entire morning here. The views are just breathtaking and the pictures don't do it justice. I 100% recommend renting a Jeep if it's your first time visiting. We were able to cover the entire island in an hour and visited a few places I had never seen before. You can also rent mopeds or bikes but you won't cover as much land and there is usually a wait unless you book in advance.

After lunch we headed over to The National Hotel for a cocktail in their garden. Try their lemonade! It's delicious! The National has several areas to hang out in. The front porch is great for watching the boats come into Old Harbor and grabbing a snack.

Another option is to head to the back of the hotel into the gardens. There you'll find adirondack chairs lined up in the garden and a wrap around porch with comfy wicker chairs. If you're looking for a little bit of a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of main strip grab a seat here.

There is also a funny story to my outfit change. The Jeep was a little high and hard for my 5 foot tall self to easily get in and out of. After hoping back into the Jeep to head back into town, the zipper to my dress gave out and my whole side was exposed. I ran over to the Tipsy Mermaid and found this adorable Elizabeth McKay dress to wear the rest of the day.
